Ripit app updated to 1.2 (Giving away 5 licenses!)

by Milind Alvares on February 8, 2009

One of our first reviews on Smoking Apples was about Ripit. We also had Jason Allum on the sets with us, giving some insights on how things work. A whole four months later, the Indy Hall Labs team (yes, the guys behind Multiplex) has released a 1.2 update.

In the email that Jason sent me, he sums it up in a single line,

This update kicks some serious ass.

If that wasn’t descriptive enough for you, here’s the lowdown. They’ve overhauled the internals to produce far fewer errors (they’ve tested over 50,000 discs with 99.99% success rate), produce better ripped images, and you don’t have to worry about the region code issue anymore. This is what I gather from the release notes that they’ve published.

Check out our review of Ripit for more info, and give a look at Multiplex, the awesome virtual DVD manager. Both the apps definitely complement each other. Ripit costs a whole $18.99 for a single user, while Multiplex costs $25 as an introductory offer. Both offer trial versions which I highly recommend.

Oh, and a giveaway!

Along with the one liner, came an offer for five giveaway licenses! Thanks Jason, that was awesome! So…

I’ve enjoyed your blog tremendously. As a fellow graphic designer, I must say your layouts and designs inspire me to do better ;-)

Oh, yes. Ripit: I wouldn’t say no to a free license!

I enjoyed using ripit because it just does its job with minimal learning curve. But I do miss some of the power features other apps have.

thanks for the time and energy you put into smokingapples! you certainly highlight quality applications, ripit included.

How do you solve the problem when a DVD publisher “copy protects” their discs by using bad sectors? Regular DVD players will ignore the bad sectors, but if you rip and try to back up the disc, the burn will fail :-( computers do not ignore bad sectors.
