It’s been quiet lately. In the twitter-app universe I mean. After Tweetie for Mac and Twitterrific 2 for iPhone, there hasn’t been much to talk about. While we wait for the bigbird to sweep us off our feet, there’s a brand new client out for the Mac. Twitt by designer Dan Deming-Hanes. And best of all, it’s free!

Twitt is a subjectively beautiful and minimalist twitter client for your Mac desktop. By the looks of it, Twitt seems like an ordinary twitter app slapped together in someone’s playtime. But there’s more to it than meets the eye. What follows is an opinion based on not more than an hour’s usage, so please don’t consider this as a review. I shall continue to use it and see if that opinion changes.
First. The looks. I’m not wow’ed by the user interface, but it’s pretty. The beauty lies in the fact that you can theme the app using XHTML + CSS based themes, much like Bluebird, Bowtie, and Ecoute. Currently the themebin isn’t quite stocked up yet (and I don’t know whether the theming community is up for yet another app) but it should gather some heat soon enough.

Next, tweet filters. You know those hashtags that make their way into the trends? They are also very easy to block with the Twitt filter. That, and those Michael Jackson tweets, should they make their appearance again.
Twitt also supports various other things, like image uploading (including Img.ly support!), notification customisation, and the ability to shrink urls.
What Twitt seriously lacks right now, is multiple account support (who ships an app without that!). It also has some bugs in the theming, which colours some tweets differently for no reason, can’t resize very well, and has that overall lack of fit and finish.
Twitt is free, I’d recommend you try it out, but I have a feeling you’ll go running back to whatever it is you came from. Tweetie, I’ve missed you.

Their servers must be getting slammed. Site loads slow and can’t download. Will check out later though. Thanks for the tip!
I’ve had trouble with this. One, it seems to be unable to gather sounds from the sounds folder. Two, it can’t receive nor send tweets. Three, the themes don’t work. Sticking to Nambu for now.
