Well, ignoring the unfair critique by the author and ignoring the app4mac comments which in some way are unprofessional whatsoever, I'm coming to the part which I wanted to say when I came here (for the second time) ...

( Just because it's not only about the prices and critique, which has to be fair, it's also about what the app can do - and for that point I will add some things ...)

NONE of this applications is able to capture an high-quality 3D game without making it slow, except Snapz Pro X! I only tested the Snow Leopard version this time, but (once you figured how to edit the settings) you can capture games like Bioshock or Call of Duty Modern Warfare in ultra high game settings at full resolution! And I tested every app on the iMac i7 quad core with 27 inch and 4GB RAM.
So, every of those game runs flawlessly in highest settings, but together with screen capture applications like Screenflow 2, or any other App (I even tried Sequence) just doesn't work. Sequence just did not support enough framerates, but it did not slow down the game itself - so it has to be improved, but the main idea isn't that bad.
For me it's about performance and not about prices. And I am anything else than rich. But when I can capture a game at 2560x1440 pixels in high quality and full speed, then it's a good choice.

SnapzProX isn't a choice for me anyway, because it's not as easy to set so it works and it isnt really appealing. I just wanted to point out that even an oldtimer like looking application can be good. Because, even if it looks like grandpas old car, it runs like a a new mercedes.
I challenge every developer out there not to only work on those easy spots of an application and to also give the performance side lots of priority ...

People always think in high-end, but people do not always have high-end computers. I got an HD mac, but others are stuck in the crappy old days and they maybe want some screen capture too!
Think of that!

If you want to capture games, get SnapzProX, if you want to do everything in one app, get Screenflow2 if you want to do better things than Quicktime, get Sequence or whatever app there might be - I don't give a shit. But for christ sake, respect each others and don't write and rewrite bullshit. Just consider writing once or never. And if you have to talk business, use mail !
And I don't mean app4mac, I mean anyone ! My god - you guys make me cry ! I thought we'd be more intelligent like apes - don't destroy what I hoped for all the time !

Stuart, don't be afraid. We are nice with nice and intelligent people. You are clearly more smart than Josh. Because the author changed his words, you cannot understand our surprise when we read the first version of the article. So yes, we became mad and upset. We are now more zen as we had a huge increase of sales.

I'm American and I don't complain about prices. I buy tons of software. I support plenty of starving developers (including those asking for freeware donations).

App4mac may care about their current customers, but I'm guessing they will not get new customers from this comment thread.

@app4mac You would have gained more customers if you had just offered the coupon code and contacted the author about your frustrations.

@SmokingApples I didn't leave my Website/Twitter info in the comments because I'm so freaked out about app4mac blowing up on my blog. Although I'm sure they could track me down if they are angry enough about my comments.

I think we know who to blame for this.

Clearly when Barack Obama was born, he knew he had to become president so that he could one day lower the dollar to piss off a screencapture company. His entire campaign was based on this ideal.

If Bush or Cheney was still president, app4mac's products would be much cheaper because trickle down economics work. This is just the liberal socialist agenda at work.

Thanks Ray, it's a great comment. OK, we have been too much talking on this subject but you cannot imagine how tired we are about stupid comments on prices. Price is not all in the life and we care about our customers. Ray showed it clearly. This is the end of this conversation on our side. Continue to insult us or give weird opinions. WE REALLY CARE about our customers and it's the only point that matters to us. Sorry if some americans have been hurt on our comments but somewhere, we know that we are right on some comments. This bad economy is not our fault. Feel free to ask for a special and nice coupon code per email if our live in US.

I am a US customer of app4mac and own one of their products. I have owned this since 12/07 and have had several instances that I had to contact them. I can say in all cases their response was immediate. In one situation, they actually went into the code of the program and made a simple change that allowed the program to work on a new iMac that was just released. The reality of the situation was that the problem was with the iMac. Apple replaced it a week after I purchased it.

I was surprised to see their response here and agree it could have been handled in a much better way. I do not think, however, it reflects the actual quality of the company's products nor their support, which I think is outstanding. Now, I have to qualify this in view of the support policy mentioned above and confirmed for the product I purchased. I can say it was 16 months after I purchased the product that I requested support. I did not have to pay anything for this, so I am not sure whether this is a new policy or not. However, even given the fact that the upgrades are free, the support pricing structure will not fly with many people.

I am also a big fan of SmokingApples and have mostly found their reviews impartial and fair. I have to totally agree here that I would rather pay the $99 for either Camtasia or Screenflow, both of which I have either tried or own. Screenflow has just released version 2 and the upgrade price is only $29 with free support. In the end, it is cheaper to have purchased Screenflow for $99 and paid the $29 for the upgrade than have purchased Séquence for $43.15 and have to pay $102.68 for unlimited support. No one can disagree that Screenflow, based on all the functionality it provides and the price is by far a much better deal.
