How about it's simply the best Dictation program ever available on a Mac? I've used all the preceding programs, iListen, IBM's Via Voice, and even Power Secretary. Dictate is the best and easiest program for Dictation that has ever existed on the Mac. I even use it for dictating program code.

I've never used Dragon Naturally Speaking, so I can't compare Dictate to that program. But Naturally Speeaking and Dictate are now owned by the same program, with separate development teams each striving to make the best product possible for their platform.

People who have given this product a positive review must have a strange sense of humour. The complexity of the commands and the "Cache" dependence of the product is a nightmare. I recently moved across to Mac and as a PC user I had Dragon naturally speaking for a number of years. Simple commands like "cap that", the ability to start dictating anywhere in a document, including tables. I have been working on a document all day and not more than 20% of it is done using Mac Speech Dictate, because it is too quirky and too complicated.

This product must have escaped because it is not ready for ordinary people to use.

How the heck does this microphone know, how to type the words right after you speak into it?

The older iListen product supports a few digital recorders, but the newer Dictate product doesn't yet. The older program isn't as accurate though, and as far as I know isn't being actively supported since MacSpeech is putting all their effort into Dictate.

Richard,

Currently, that feature is not available in MacSpeech but my vendor tells me that MacSpeech will surely add this feature sometime later.

What would make this really worthwhile for me would be if I could dictate into a hand held recorder away from the computer, a digital dictaphone I guess, and then plug it in and have the dictation transcribed. Does MacSpeech have provision for this? Thanks.
