Turns out the camera apps on the iPhone were so popular, they’ve started creeping on to the Mac! Who ever thought a mobile app would one day makes its way to the desktop /sarcasm. The very popular ‘CameraBag’ recently launched as a desktop app, and we’re here to take a look at whether or not it justifies the 1000% increase in price.

CameraBag is an app that allows you to quickly add glamarous effects without tinkering around with any settings or complex procedures. All you do is select your effect, and Camerabag does the rest. On the iPhone, it’s a brilliant move since you can quickly polish up those snaps clicked on the go, before you publish them to twitter, flickr, or send them over to friends via email. I’m not sure how much utility this app will provide.
For the sake of argument, the app works splendidly. You can select from the 9 available filters at the bottom, apply multiple filters, select sizes, borders, and cropping. It’s a fast app and didn’t take down the system even with high resolution images. The effects of course are as gorgeous as can be. The 1974 filter really makes your crisp digital photo look like it was clicked back the day.
At $20 however, I think I’m going to pass on this one. I’d highly suggest you try it though.

Not related but if you ever come across an app for Mac or iPhone that will let you put in a location (or use yours) and the current time and weather to tell you the angle of the sun and the color it is probably producing, and importantly extrapolate that so you can tell if the light will get better later when the clouds clear but it gets a little higher or lower, that would be a good review for landscape photographers.
I agree. I LOVE their iPhone app but feel this is a little overpriced, especially with no iPhoto integration.
I wrote to them to tell them so.It’s a bit of a conundrum for developers with the app store driving prices down with its economy of scale. This has some extra features like being able to grade in full res that I’d gladly say pay a 5 pounds for but 12 is a bit steep. So I too will pass for the moment. Their mobile app is terrific value however and a probably my most used app after Mail/Safari.
Looks great, other than the price.
This is a great app for what it does, and the effects are cool, but the price is definitely a bit steep. As a graphic designer and photographer, it’d be easy to replicate these effects myself using Photoshop. If they dropped the price to, say… $10, I’d buy it just to make my life a little easier.
I was wondering why the iPhone app wasn’t updated to support the new camera resolution – they’ve been working on this! Okay, all fine and dandy, but how about it kids.. update the iPhone app to use the full camera res!!
