Personally, I’m an Arts grad, so I have no idea about business and accounting procedures. So when Christian Owens of The Dream Apps announced Involer, a simple invoicing app, it definitely caught my attention.
There isn’t any accounting jargon, nor is there any complicated workflow (which is why this app won’t work for high end businesses anyway). Involer is basically a simple home or small business invoicing app that brings in a no-frills experience to your accounting. Note that I haven’t tested this app thoroughly, so you can’t take this as a review, but here are my initial impressions of the app.

The UI can be broken down into four layers. At the top layer, you create fields for companies. Under companies, you create individual clients. Under each client, you create separate invoices which are automatically marked with the current date. The process is very quick, and doesn’t involve any extra steps in between. You can of course later go in and add extra details like addresses and phone numbers to your companies and clients, but that doesn’t get in the way of your working with the app.
Once you create the invoice, you can add the item name and amount. You don’t need to (and cannot) specify any currency, so Involer will go through all your numbers and tally up the figure. You can then directly print the invoice or generate a preview to see what it will look like. A single click will change the status of the large banner from ‘Unpaid’ to ‘Paid’. I should add that the paid/unpaid badge looks supercool! The print output on the other hand is a basic and straightforward (it’s no Billings), so if you want something fancy you might need to look elsewhere.

The app is fresh out of the oven (in fact, just last night we were discussing the icon), so I gather there still needs some work to be done. I noticed some shortcomings in terms of keyboard navigation, faulty search, but otherwise the app is definitely something worth mentioning. Involer is currently being offered at an introductory price of $20, though I’d suggest you take the trial for a round to see how it fits your workflow.

It’s an interesting little app, but without a currency indication I don’t know it’s even legal is it? Assuming it is legal there doesn’t look to be tax control or invoice customisation in there. It’s got some tough competition in Billings for sure so I’ll be keen to see how this app comes on. It certainly looks nice and is keeping simple so far which I like. Interesting.
