via arsWe’ve reported previously about hackers in south east Asia who have figured out a way to generate iTunes gift codes. But they’re apparently not satisfied with the measly $2 per code that they’re selling for. They’re now contacting indie iPhone developers hoping to strike a deal of sharing their profits.

AppleInsider has obtained an email sent to the developer of TiltMeter Pro, sent from an individual using a yahoo.com email account to the developer’s customer support email address listed in the iTunes App Store. The email states, “I’ve been taking a look into your application and have an offer to you. I have many itunes gift certificates for itunes usa , canada and uk to make purchases through the itunes store. I can buy your product as many times as you want and can share earnings 50 – 50.”

The hackers offer to buy the app many times over, and share the profits 50-50 with the developer. The dev not only gets profits, but increases the app sales numbers putting it higher up in the iTunes rankings. The hacker on the other hand gets much more cash than he would have netted by selling the code to a straight up customer.

I hope the developers realize that if Apple finds out their app purchases were done under fraud, they will not only get banned and defamed, they will also face some legal charges.
