After what could be regarded as the longest downtime the Apple Online Store has seen, Apple has pulled the wraps on brand new iMacs, which are so awesome, you’ll kill yourself if you don’t buy one. Ready?
The two iMacs, 21.5 inches and 27 inches, sport LED-Backlit displays with super high resolutions of 1920*1080 and 2560*1440 respectively. These are 16:9 displays, cropping exactly to the high definition movie standards.
The new 21.5-inch iMac features a high resolution 1920-by-1080 pixel display. The 27-inch iMac features a beautiful 2560-by-1440 pixel display that offers 60 percent more pixels than the previous 24-inch model. Both 21.5 and 27-inch displays use IPS technology to deliver consistent color across an ultra wide 178 degree viewing angle.
While the base model starting at $1199 sports a Core 2 Duo processor, the high end models get the Core i5 and Core i7 processors—quad core! The 21.5 inch models can only accomodate a Core 2 Duo processor, 3.06Ghz (3MB cache) or 3.33Ghz (6MB cache), while the 27 inch model can get either the dual core, or a 2.66 Ghz or 2.8Ghz quad core processor from Intel’s latest Core i7 CPU. Another big change is the support for four RAM slots, taking the max memory supported up to 16GB! The iMac also sports the SD card slot recently introduced with the MacBook Pros, and can be finally wall mounted again (27 inch model only).
Every iMac ships with a wireless keyboard, the brand new wireless “Magic Mouse” with Multi-Touch™! The body of the Mac also looks a little different, and is possibly even thinner. Check out Apple.com/iMac for all the details, including a product video featuring Jony Ive.
