Adobe’s today makes its first foray into the App Store with a tool they are most familiar with—Photoshop.com mobile. This is a companion app to Adobe’s online service Photoshop.com, and by the looks of it is going to win hearts all over.

Features wise it doesn’t have anything new worth the mention. Basic tools like cropping, rotation, and flip, colour correction, and a bunch of effects like Vibrancy, Vignettes, and “Sketch” and “Soft Focus” for some photographic feel. I like the way Adobe has implemented a full touch interface, as you just drag across the image to adjust exposure and colour correction. That said, Camerabag, Cropulator, PhotoForge, and others have been able to do these things in far better ways.
What really kicks in Photoshop.com Mobile, is the tie up with the online service. You can upload pictures to Photoshop.com (2GB space with the free account), and then access them on the go using your iPhone. You can also upload pictures from the app to the online service. Photoshop.com of course offers much more editing control over your images, in which the iPhone app is supposed to play an extensional role. Unfortunately the app doesn’t have any way to share images to Twitter, Tumblr, or Flickr, probably because Adobe wants to generate interest in their own service.
The Photoshop.com Mobile app is completely free as is the service, so this app, while not bringing much to the table, is still going to displace sales for a large number of indie developer made apps. Good enough is good enough for most people, especially when it’s for free. Unfortunately, it’s only available in the US iTunes Store.
