one-billion-apps-hero-20090418Apple finally hit the billion app counter earlier today. It was 100 million in September (two months after the App Store launch). Then on the 5th of December it hit 300 million. Macworld saw 500 million. iPhone SDK on the 17th of March went up to 800 million. A little over a month later we’re at a billion apps. That’s just 9 months since the App Store was launched.

The one billionth app, Bump created by Bump Technologies, was downloaded by Connor Mulcahey, age 13, of Weston, CT. As the grand prize winner of Apple’s one billion app countdown contest, Connor will receive a $10,000 iTunes gift card, an iPod touch, a Time Capsule and a MacBook Pro.

Yes, I can see the disappointment in your eyes [Milind: I already had plans for that MacBook Pro!]. Hopefully 5 billion will come swiftly and we’ll all get to go on that app download rampage we went on these past two weeks.

After the break, watch the YouTube video of the counter turning to 1,00,00,000 and the interesting ad that Apple has splashed around on the internet.
