We all remember that sad day when Techspansion shut down, taking along with it the stunning video encoder Visualhub, the audio counterpart AudialHub, and the iPod video converter, iSquint. There was no word on the future of either of these apps and most of us had made our peace with it (while holding close our existing copies).
Lost amidst all of the noise created by Apple’s announcements, Techspansion’s Tyler Loch has announced that all of his projects are going opensource, including one that no one even knows about. For now VisualHub and the secret project have been send into the OSS stables at SourceForge.net. The other two will follow suit soon.
The source code for two of the projects (one you haven’t seen yet, and will hopefully really like) are now online. I’ll get the other two online a little later.
These are new projects, with new names, ready for a new life with smarter people. All of their development and discussion should happen on the SourceForge project page. - Loch
VisualHub has been renamed to FilmRedux. The project in it’s current state has very little documentation and the application not executable by any average joe (that includes you). The guys at APCmag have found a screenshot inside the project files. It appears that the interface is moving towards the look and feel of AudialHub. It also sports a free floating inspector now, instead of the preference panes.

For now, all we know is that there is hope and confidence, that our favourite video converter, in the hands of competent people, will continue to improve and evolve with the future technology.
