iPod Touch 2G Pwned!

ipod-touch-2gAfter six months of struggling with the iPod Touch 2G, the jailbreak community has finally managed to create an ‘unteethered jailbreak’ of the iPod Touch’s firmware, making it a “Pwned for life” device, as the dev team describes it.

The exploit, detailed in a very geeky way here, is a ‘fatal flaw in its bootrom that means you can pwn the device no matter what firmware updates come along’. For now, the pwnage process isn’t as simple as just using the Pwnage Tool or QuickPwn, but I suppose it is possible after reading up on various guides that have sprung up.

The jailbreak community had been hoping that the exploit wouldn’t get out until the next iPhone was released (in case Apple implements some newer protection in there), but it’s out now anyway. Hopefully Apple has already finalised on the next iPhone to not make any changes to its design. On the other hand, the jailbreak is right on time, for the opening of the Cydia Store. There are tons of iPod Touch 2G users (all those christmas gifts) who are dying to jailbreak their iPods.

Let us know if you managed to jailbreak your iPod Touch 2G, and point us to an easy guide if you find one.

I did it, it was super simple. I utilized the Quickfreedom GUI using parallels.
It took about 20 minutes and I’m new to jailbreaking.

QuickFreedom is by far the easiest right now. Till pwnage tool or QwickPWN comes out wiht it anyway.

Did mine in Fusion.

I used quickfreedom to bust my iPod. I got mine about 2 weeks ago and broke it the next day. It is very simple. If something happens to it, you don’t have to worry because you can use iTunes to resort back to default firmware. I play with my iPid more than I play WoW. I am still paying the monthly fee.
