While the iPod Classic by itself is a beautiful gadget, not everyone is comfortable dragging it around without some sort of protection. This is where Griffin Technology’s Reflect iPod case comes in.

Reflect cases are durable polycarbonate shells that present a seamless, mirrored-chrome reflective finish to the world. Tuck your iPod inside a Reflect case; when you wake up your player, the bright, clear screen shows through the chrome faceplate as if by magic.

The Reflect case protects your iPod while maintaining a very sleek look. In the package you’ll find two bottom pieces, and the top reflect piece. Since the case is built to fit all the Classic iPods, including the fatter 160GB model, it has to have the two different backs, one for the 80 and 120GB models, and one for the 160GB model.

Installation is very easy, place your iPod in the front cover, and the back snaps into place. Removal is just as simple. On the lower right corner is a small notch. Put a key or coin in it and twist and the cover pops apart. All that little work pays off in the end, as the case looks drop dead gorgeous. The entire front panel turns into a giant mirror when the screen is off. Turn on the iPod and the display shows through.

Unfortunately, a case this beautiful is bound to have a few flaws, and it does. The biggest problem with the Reflect case is when you venture outside into the sun. As soon as the sun hits the cover, it turns into an iPod sized mirror. This isn’t a problem when you don’t need to look at the screen, but if you do, you are out of luck until you get under cover. It is also a fingerprint magnet, but anything with a glossy cover will have this problem.

Verdict

I really like this case. It’s well made, and holds onto the iPod very well. I still have full access to the dock port, headphone port and hold switch. It fits in any of the universal docks as long as you don’t have an insert in them. But, if you are an active person and carry your iPod everywhere, I wouldn’t recommend the Reflect case for you. Mine has already received several scratches and my iPod is either hidden in my car, or sitting on the iPod dock. The case is supposed to be rugged enough to protect your iPod; I can’t say for sure since I haven’t drop tested it.

The case costs $9.99 from Griffin Tech, and $8.99 from Amazon.
