While there are millions of iPhone users out there, a significant minority includes those who have unlocked the phone to a carrier different from the one it shipped with, mostly AT&T. Two of us from the SA team also have our 2G iPhones unlocked so we can use them in India. It so happens, that the 3.0 OS doesn’t play very nice with a ‘hacktivated’ iPhone, as the dev team refers to it.
The first problem, is the YouTube app which refuses to connect no matter what kind of network you’re on. So much for all that YouTube accounts feature. The dev team is aware of this and are working on getting out a quick fix. We’re only hopeful.
Second, is Push Notifications, which also refuse to work on hacktivated iPhones. Reported by Bram Bourgonjon, upon installing a push notification capable app you’re requested to connect to iTunes. But even after doing so nothing happens. A member of the dev team replied to Bram, stating that the new version of QuickPwn and Pwnage will enable Push Notifications.
Some folks are wondering whether the Find My iPhone function of MobileMe doesn’t work on a hactivated iPhone. I’m pleased to report that my iPhone is as unlocked as unlocked can be, and yet it performs all of the Find my iPhone features.
For iPhone 3G users, the ultrasn0w unlock will be available on Friday. This is the new version of yellowsn0w that was available for the 3G running 2.0 software. The dev team gave a demo on how to go through it, I’d suggest you follow along if you’re on that bandwagon.
Anyone notice anything weird on their jailbroken/unlocked iPhone?

Read the first couple of paragraphs of this article and laughed when I got to the YouTube problem. For a moment I didn’t know this was about Jailbroken 3.0! I’m running 3.0 unbroken and I can’t get my YouTube account to authenticate! That’s not a jailbreak problem but rather a 3.0 problem!
Maybe yours is a bug since it does work with most iPhones on official carrier. Also, the dev team has also acknowledged that the YouTube app doesn’t work with hacktivated iPhone.
Meh, I just managed to break the SIM eject mechanism so I’ll be using my K750i till I get back to iPhone-land-USA, luckily with the AT&T SIM inside.
Apple Remote App refuses to recognize my iPhone. Still i m happy to have Winterboard and SBsettings back on my Hacktivated iPhones.
