You’ve seen the news posts, the screenshots of the Street View and probably by now installed and taken the 2.2 OS for a spin. We took a little time off to go through the iPhone 2.2 OS and look out for little changes, that make the overall experience much better.
Screenshots of the Locked Screen.
It is now possible to use the two button press to generate a screenshot of your locked screen. Same shortcut of pressing the Home and Sleep buttons together flashes the screen and saves the shot in your Camera Roll.

Multiple App Screenshots
The App Store now features multiple screenshots, so you can get a much better overview of the app or game in question. Tapping any of them invokes the photo viewer so you can quickly swipe through them.
iPhoto thumbnails
The screenshot thumbnails used to show proxy images so you had to play the guessing game. The issue has since been fixed and the images render just fine. However, this bug has been replaced by a more severe bug which we’ve talked about earlier.
Update All button
Apple decided to take this feature away and has now brought it back with the 2.2 update. You can now update all your apps at once from the AppStore.

Number formatting
The phone app has received a nice update. What was previously rendered as a single long line of digits for phone numbers not from the US, we now have some form of formatting for international number formatting.
Edit button in Genius and On-The-Go
The edit button has now been moved and has been replaced by the ever present “Now Playing” button in the title bar of the On-The-Go playlist feature. The Genius playlist on the other hand brings down the Save button and replaces it with the Now Playing button at the top.
Podcast list inverted
In version 2.1, the podcast list showed the episodes with the newest episode at the top. With 2.2, the newest episode shows right at the bottom. The reason for this change is most probably due to the podcasts automatically progressing to the newer podcast instead of the older one. A handy UI improvement is that the list will auto scroll down to the newest episode the moment you select the show.
SMS privacy
If your passcode locked iPhone has been set to not show the SMS preview on the locked screen, 2.1 used to display “New Text Message”. With 2.1 they have either improved it or gone back a step since it now shows the name of the person sending you the text.
Apps installs in same location
While 2.1 made sure that if you updated an app it stayed in the same position (the proxy app would update and replace the earlier one), the new system makes the app update right where it currently resides on your Home Screen.
Updated
When you bring up google search in Mobile Safari, tapping the far left switches to the Address bar. The reverse of this isn’t true though. (Thanks Dhanaji!)
When you tap the address bar in Safari, you don’t need to clear the field to begin typing a new url. Just tap the address bar and begin typing!
I’m sure we’ve missed some things, so if you know any let us know! Oh and lest I forget to mention, still no copy-paste!
