iPhone 2.2 BETA Brings StreetView to Google Maps
According to an iPhone Dev’s post on the MacRumors forum, the next update to the iPhone OS is supposed to bring StreetView and possibly turn-by-turn directions. This comes as no surprise, as Streetview is enabled on Android as well as the Google Maps application on other phones.
While the legitimacy of the poster may be doubted, to his credit he was the first one to announce the changes in the Safari browser.
In the first screenshots, we can clearly see that StreetView is enabled. Controlling the street view should either be by touch or by accelerometer. Unlike Google’s Android, the iPhone doesn’t have a compass to detect the direction in which you are pointing in.

The poster also suggests that turn by turn directions (left) are now enabled in the new OS. There is also evidence that a new feature throws the estimated time of travel (right) to a destination, either by foot or by car.
The iPhone 2.2 update looks interesting. After major performance enhancements and bug fixes in the 2.1 update, Apple seems to be concentrating on adding features and UI enhancements throughout the iPhone. Stay tuned for more as and when we uncover them.

What is the speed like in displaying the google map information?
How well do the turn by turn directons work?

Unfortunately we have not tested any of this. The screenshots have been uploaded by an iPhone dev over at MacRumors forum (link in the post). We will know more only after the 2.2 update has been released. But I assume the data should load fairly quick on a 3G connection.
