Byline always had folders. It's just that inside those folders, there was no feed separation. Like the latest article from SA would show on top, next would be an article from Ars, stuff like that. Not checked out Manifesto (they need to change their name if they want people to find it). Will check it out though.

I heard that Byline integrated folders now? Is that a game changer? Has anyone used Manifesto??? How does that stack up?

You're right. In fact, Pro RSS was going to win the shootout when I had just 3 apps for the review. It was only when Feeds was introduced that I switched the winner. I don't like the fact that Pro RSS is a bit laggy at times (especially when switching feeds).

I've tried Byline, Feeds, Manifesto - but in the end I settled for Pro RSS because although it's not laden with killer features, they are on their way; but for now it's a really slick interface. I agree the fact Byline doesn't let you browse individual feeds is absolutely nuts; Pro RSS does. Feeds is along the right lines for me, but the interface doesn't feel so businesslike. The developer states the upcoming release of Pro RSS has a load of extra import functions (eg. Bloglines and Newsgator as well as Google Reader) as well as ability to preload images - but the devil is in the detail for me. Pro RSS lets you disable horizontal viewing (a must for reading in bed), sort/order feeds, has feed discovery by browsing sites, allows archiving, nested categories/folders for feeds. Developer is really responsive too and once Google Reader / OPML DTD is supported fully (which is the plan), the reader will allow importing of folder hierarchies too. Also the viewing is really slick and fast. Just my opinion :)

I bought Byline when it was $9.99 I think. What a waste of money. Beautiful interface, but that single folder approach is maddening. Using Feeds now (thanks!), it's great!

@James: True, NNW has the awesome syncing, but what about those who prefer to use Google Reader? It has a lot more features, sharing, and is much more accessible. Feeds and Byline both do Google Reader syncing, which means what you read on the iPhone, is marked as 'read' everywhere else…
