I know there a lot of fatties out there in Mac/nerd land. I used to be a big tub of lard too. I mean, let’s face it. Until Apple designs the iDiet, a large portion of the nerd populace is never gonna watch what they eat. Whether it be Mountain Dew, Jones, or Jolt, you can feel that semi-permanent coat of sugar on your teeth. You haven’t seen Mr. Happy for a decade, and you’re starting to wonder if you’re ever going to find a woman (or man) who’ll love you as you are, back fat and all. And while Apple hasn’t gotten around to the iDiet yet, (Who are we kidding? Steve doesn’t need to go on a diet, and he doesn’t want anyone who needs to being seen with any of his beautiful people products) Tapplox has gone and made the most beautiful diet tracking apps, maybe one of the most beautiful apps on the iPhone, for you to keep your Cheetoes addiction under control. Meet Foobi.
So what’s a Foobi?

No, it’s not a distant relative of the Chocobo as you may have believed. It’s a diet notebook. It’s kind of the Birdhouse of diet trackers. It does one thing only, but does it efficiently and with style. Open up Foobi, and you’re greeted with a slider filled with categories of foods. But instead of trying to count calories, which is ultimately pointless, it helps you keep track of how many servings you had for each category. All these categories can be renamed and their daily serving allowance adjusted. If you need new categories, you can create them. Don’t need one of the pre-programmed categories? Hide them.
You can tap on a list view button and see all of your tallies for the day. A swipe to the left brings up a delete button, and you can edit your daily food intake. Rotate your iPhone or iPod touch to the side, and you’re shown a color-coded weekly bar graph that shows you a visual representation of your eating habits. See all those sweets and red meat? That’s your waistline crying. You can cycle back in time, and look over your past eating habits to get a picture of how you’ve been doing over the course of your diet tracking.
Anything missing?
Some of you will dislike that it doesn’t track your weight. I personally like the way Weightbot does its job, and frankly don’t think Foobi needs the weight tracker. I wouldn’t be surprised if it were to get that feature added on later though. One thing I would kind of like would be just a little check box for each day to just keep track of how often I work out. But it’s not a deal breaker.

Do you need Foobi?
If you’re trying to keep track of what you eat, and don’t want to be a weirdo and “Tweet What You Eat”, then Foobi could be for you. It excels in two areas I place great importance on, simplicity and beauty. You can buy it for $1.99 in the App Store.
