[tweetmeme] Hi. I’m Milind. And I’m an ego addict. I have a bookmark folder titled “Ego” on my Safari toolbar, with several sites listed that help boost my internet ego in terms of comments, ‘likes’, and whatnot. And right at the top of that list, is Favstar.fm, one of the best twitter apps on the web.
Being sarcastically funny on twitter is the new “I ate < this food> for breakfast!”. Everyone’s doing it. And the public is the ultimate judge on which one’s the funniest, by means of marking a tweet as a fave or star, pretty much every twitter client supports it. The guys at Favstar are constantly crawling people’s stars, and assigning them to folks, which ultimately leads to the leaderboard with the top faves.
Favstar.fm is of course iPhone optimised, so you can browse through it with Safari, but where’s the fun in that. Favit is a new app by developer Tim Haines, who incidentally is the man behind Favstar. In a sentence, Favit is a way for you to browse, fave, and retweet hand picked popular tweets from the twitter web.

The UI is drawn in minimalism, borrowing heavily from the general look of the site while still looking like a native app. Once you’re logged in, it’s just a matter of swiping tweet after tweet. If you like something, star it. If you like something a lot, pull the tweet down to reveal the author, with options for retweeting, emailing, and adding the person to your favstar ‘list’. From a technical point of view, it’s perfection in an app. Everything is fluid, intuitive, and fast.
I do have some issues with it however. For one, you have no idea when the tweet was posted. I retweeted a bunch of good ones, only to find they were from back in September and October. I don’t like to be the late postman. This issue will iron itself out as the official retweets catch on, but for now I’m a little more careful.
Second, you have no idea how many faves a tweet got. Or browse the lower fave’d tweets for that matter. I prefer to watch 3-10 star tweets instead of going for the 100+ faved tweets that über popular people like Sween and Merlin Mann push out. I’m sure much of this will be ironed out in future updates, so I wouldn’t whine about it too much.
At $2.99 it isn’t your average impulse buy app, but it’s a quality app from a quality service. Of course it all depends on how much you enjoy going through the funnies. Let me help you find your way to the App Store.

Favit is fantastic. I’m a fan of interface and simplicity and Favit pretty much masters both.
The interface isn’t over the top and works well for a custom interface. The gestures are automatically what you’d think they’d be and don’t require any work.
All in all a fantastic application with a very fair pricetag. Do recommend.
