Ego and Analytics, beautiful web stats on your iPhone

web-stats-iphone1If you’re anything like me, watching website stats makes up a big part of the day. The problem is, until now, where weren’t any web stat applications for the iPhone. So giving a quick glance as you say goodnight to the twitter world was not a close reality.

ego-iphoneThankfully, two new web Stats applications have made their way into the App Store: Ego and Analytics app. Both serve different purposes, both in terms of services and functionality. I’m going to talk about Ego, a stat tracker for Feedburner, Twitter, and most importantly, Mint. We use mint stats for SA, and the stat addict in me has been dying to check them on the go.

Ego review

Ego does not give you any detailed stats, only a quick glance, but what a beautiful glance it is! Tap the mint stat to switch between hourly, daily or monthly. Twitter stats show you the follower count and the last tweet, or number of updates, or your following count. Some might say twitter stats are useless, but if you can give it a glance anyway, why not add it in there. Feedburner stats show you the reader count, along with an indicator for when there is a dip in feed count. Tap it to show the difference between the last count. Google Analytics is coming soon says the dev, while the architecture is said to allow for many more web stat services.

Ego costs $1.99, and is totally worth it if you have a mint stat tracker ($30) installed on your site. If you don’t have any mint stats to track, my condolences.

Analytics App review

Manan is a Microsoft fanboy, who thinks Balmer is actually capable of saving MS. He writes about it (among other things) on his blog, and tweets just about the same on, you guesed it, twitter!

Though I installed Google Analytics for my blog I have never used it comprehensively, to be honest the only thing I like & use Google Analytics for, is the Map Overlay of your visitors. Milind cheered Ballmer and agreed that Windows 7 is gonna give OS X a tough time, all to get me to review the app for Smoking Apples, so here is what I think of it…

My first reaction on knowing that the app is not an official Google product was that of disappointment. The price-tag of $6 didn’t help either. GPRS isn’t the right connection that you should be using for this as I faced connection errors on numerous occasions but over Wi-Fi the app worked like a charm. And this was when my disappointment started to turn into amazement. The app packs into itself pretty much the whole of Google Analytics’ web offerings.

The Power
Simplicity of the interface is one of the USPs of the app. Clean text, not a lot of images, no unnecessary taps needed. The numbers are as straightforward as it can get.

The home screen is divided into 6 categories: Overview Reports, Visitor Reports, Traffic Reports, Content Reports, Site Search Reports and Event Tracking Reports. These are further sub divided into specific functions.

The interface as I said is what will make you like the app. Everything is just a tap away. You can define the period over which the stats should be displayed, get detailed reports on visitors, or take a look at the goals you’ve set for yourself. I love the way the app packs all the info in a single screen. If one were to see the Traffic for a site, a clean graph, sources, and keywords are shown. Pretty much all one would want to know about the Traffic. The same detail is followed for the rest, which include Browsers used and the connection speeds of your visitors.

If you were to go into Visitor Reports for example, you will have options like, Visitor Loyalty, Recency, Length of Visit and so on. I don’t think there’s space enough to go into the other four options for viewing stats. Essentially more detailed information.

The Admiration
Analytics app is one of the very few actually usable application on the iPhone [Ed: was waiting for that Apple jab] that I have come across. If someone asked me to rate this app I’d happily give it a 4.5 on 5. Coming from me, you know there’s no bias. What’s more, the developer of the plugin promises to refund you your $6 via Paypal if you are unsatisfied with the app (a first for the App Store I think).

Glad you liked Analytics App! It’s been fun to develop and design, and we are excited to get some new features in there in the weeks to come. Thanks!

Thanks for the review, although, both are so difficult to choose from! I guess I will go with Analytics app, since I like to browse stats more than just a glance. Also I don’t have mint :(
