games-iphoneIf there’s one type of apps that are selling like hot cakes on the App Store, it’s games. Thousands of games make their way on this amazing platform, some of which have the most unique forms of gameplay. Here’s a few that caught my attention.

Peggle

PopCap makes some really great games. Probably most notably is Bejeweled, now one of their newest in addictive games is Peggle. Peggle is simple enough for anybody to pick up and instantly start having fun with. To play, all you have to do is aim a little ball cannon and fire. The goal is to clear all of the orange pegs out before you run out of balls. Blue pegs can give you points, purple ones will give bonus points, and green pegs will activate a special power unique to the master character you’re playing as. Add in a bucket that slowly moves across the bottom giving you free balls if your ball lands in it and a variety of bonus points that are awarded for stylish play and you have a combination that offers infinite fun as you shoot for the highest score.

Peggle is one of those games that must be played to be appreciated. It looks very simple but is so addictive, I ran down my iPhone battery on a recent plane trip as I was so caught up in the play. One thing I would like to see in future versions is the ability to use the accelerometer to control the bucket. Peggle is available from the App store and costs $4.99 USD.

Yeti Sports

Desktop games are increasingly making their way to the iPhone, YetiSports is no different according to the web site the desktop version of this great and classic game has almost 100,000 people that play the game every day. I have been one of those visitors on several occasions.

The desktop version of Yeti Sports is made up with a bunch of mini games, the iPhone version you can only the “Pingu Throw” game. Pingu is a penguin who stands on a cliff above the Yeti. Touching the screen once makes Pingu jump off the cliff , touching again makes the yeti swings an ice baseball bat that sends Pingu into the sky and across the ice.

The game gives you two game modes “Play Level” and “Play Classic” both have the same goal which is to glide your penguin as far as possible.

This great game is available at the App Store for $2.99.

Bookworm

bookworkOne of my favorite time wasters on my Mac is Bookworm, now it has made it onto my iPhone taking up even more of my time. A great thing about this game is you can play it for hours or just a few minutes while waiting for the elevator.

You are given a screen of lettered tiles and a little green worm called Lex in the top left hand corner who watches as you try to clear the board. To clear the tiles you need to spell words, the longer the better. Every now and then colored bonus tiles appear to provide you with more points if you use them. There are also fiery tiles which burn through the other tiles each turn if you let them. Once they hit the bottom, it’s all game over so you want to clear them as fast as possible.

If you are stuck for a word, you can ’scramble’ the screen by shaking your iPhone. This mixes up the tiles but also gets rid of any bonus tiles you have and adds fire tiles, so you dont want to use this very often.

This game is just like the web based and desk top version, but adds the “shake” to scramble. If you love this game on your desktop you will love it even more on your iPhone. Book worm is available in the App Store for $4.99.

If you do come across some cool addictive games, do let us know so we can check them out.
