No, you will not have to pay custom duties for it. Apple takes care of everything for you. All you will have to do is have someone accept the machine when it is delivered to your house by Blue Dart.

Hi guys,
A newbie here. I am in the process of replacing my MBP which I had got from the US last year. The machine was defective from the begining and after umpteen repairs and trips to the service centre here in Mumbai, Apple has agreed to replace my MBP with a new model. It will be shipping from Singapore and I have already sent my defective piece to Apple.
What I would like to ask you guys here, is, would I have to pay any customs duties if and when the MBP arrives here?
Any help in this regard is greatly appreciated. Anyone can reply back to me at Vijayrajan10@gmail.com

Oh, keep your judgement to yourself. Whatever I’ve described above is exactly how the whole thing went down and I never made any reference to my writing for Macworld when I was dealing with Apple. I’ve been writing for Macworld for about three years now and Apple never replaced any of the products I took to them for service in my several encounters with them before and after the one I’ve described above. In fact, I’ve been so critical about Apple so often on Macworld that I might actually hurt my chances of getting decent service by telling them about my association with them (not that that influences my level of disclosure one way or the other). I’d advise you to take a look at your own sense of ethics before you go blaming others for not having them.

As for Systematix Media, I have had poor customer service run-ins with them myself and have also heard from various friends who’ve had similar experiences, which lead me to believe that they aren’t very competent. If indeed you consistently receive great service from them, as you describe, I’m happy for you and would be more than willing to change my opinion about them should I ever need any help with an Apple product while in Kolkata and they rise to the occasion admirably. So far, however, that hasn’t been the case and I’m not going to let one person’s experiences and opinion change my overall impression.

And my name is spelled as “Aayush Arya”.

@Ayush Arya Your experience with Imagine, Kolkata and Systematix Media is completely at odds with what most Calcuttans experience. Not only is their service with AppleCare exemplary, their staff are very knowledgeable and polite. Most of my colleagues and I have had very pleasant experience dealing with them. Never had to wait longer than three days for replacements.
It seems you extracted a new MacBook Pro from Apple by pulling strings just because you contribute to MacWorld.
THIS IS BAD JOURNALISM ETHICS

Apple is alway nice with its customers. Last winter my iMac display was giving me issues. There were brown spots all over the screen. I called up the customer care and they told me to take my iMac to a service center. I did the same and my iMac's LCD was replaced the next day.

A pleasant experience.
