Someone up there must be feeling pretty jolly today, because we’ve just received confirmed information on the pricing of Apple’s newest OS offering, Mac OS X Snow Leopard and the pricing sure doesn’t disappoint.
Retailing at $29 in the US, Mac OS X Snow Leopard will be available at Rs. 1800 in India, which, going by today’s conversion rates, is about $36.8. The 5-User Family Pack, which retails for $49 in the US will be priced at Rs. 2900, which again by today’s conversion rates is about $59.33. For Tiger Users, who own an Intel based Mac, the Mac Box Set which includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife ’09 and iWork ’09, which retails for $169 in the US will be priced at Rs. 10,000 (About $205), while a Family-pack of the Mac Box Set will be about Rs. 13,500 here.
For those interested in the stronger cat, Snow Leopard Server, which includes some innovative new features is priced at Rs.28,100 with unlimited client licenses.
Note that all the above mentioned prices are MRPs and as usual, the availability of the products is said to be “within four weeks“.
Now, most of us Indians who are reading this, have only one Mac in the house, probably running Leopard already, so a upgrade price of Rs. 1800 doesn’t seem bad to me at all. But is it good enough for you to spend the cash and upgrade?

I’ve got the cash in my hand right now! When is this thing coming out? I want it!
The first word that came from my mouth after reading the pricing was ‘WOW’. Can’t wait to get Snowy now.
But, when I contacted Apple India, they said that the cost of Snow Leopard is Rs 1700(single user), and it is available for pre order. Call any Apple premium reseller ( Eg. imagine Store )
Got Snow Leopard ordered for me, as previously said, the cost is Rs 1700.

Hi Friend,
Is there a way I can get Snow Leopard online. If not just let me know the procedure to get them. I am using Leopard.
Regards,
krishnan.
i think price differentiation is due to the tax structures of states being different.. as preshit mentioned Rs. 1800 is the MRP.. but it can be sold less than that too..
Hmm interesting pricing.. I would probably wait for couple of weeks before jumping into upgrade….!
I need two upgrades, one for laptop and one for desktop. So I’ll get family pack.
UK pricing is somewhat dearer as compared to ours. 25£=1990 INR 39£=3100 INR. If I get tax free, I don’t need to wait four weeks!!!
WOW…! I am going to get one.I wonder if i could get it in istore by reliance in chennai.
good price fro up graders .i was prepared to pay upto 5000 for the new os x but….. now it just 3/4ths of it.
It’s pretty pathetic that Apple’s India (http://www.apple.com/in/) site says “Available August 28th” and it takes them almost 4 weeks to get Snow Leopard to India.
The price is reasonable but come on, why can’t they manage getting the software released at the same time in India. I need the family pack and I need it ASAP!
Rs. 1,700 you say, huh? Not bad at all. I’ll be buying it.
