mac-desktop-prices-indiaFellow Indians, if you’ve been waiting to buy your first Mac or replace that old white plastic with some shiny aluminum, the recent refresh of the entire desktop line-up by Apple last week may have come as a breather. However, when these refreshed products hit the Indian shores, their pricing is sure to leave you disappointed.

We’ve just received the pricing details for the updated Desktop Line-Up, and it’s pretty clear that the falling economy, couple with the rising dollar prices and going to leave us high and dry. While the desktop Macs face a substantial rise in the prices, the Airport devices that were also updated with new features have been made costlier by a few thousand rupees.

Here’s a complete rundown of the prices. All prices are in MRP, and you should be able to get it at a slightly lower price depending on how well you sweet-talk your dealer.

Quad-core Mac Pro - Rs. 1,42,700
8-core Mac Pro - Rs. 1,88,900

20-inch, 2.66 GHz iMac - Rs. 70,200
24-inch, 2.66 GHz iMac - Rs. 87,000
24-inch, 2.93 GHz iMac - Rs. 1,04,900
24-inch, 3.06 GHz iMac - Rs. 1,25,900
One might note that the entry point for a 24” iMac is now much lower than what it previously was.

2.0 GHz Mac mini (1GB RAM) - Rs. 36,600
2.26 GHz Mac mini (2GB RAM) - Rs. 48,200
The low end Mac mini will feature a DVD writer instead of the combo drive, making it a much better deal

Time Capsule 500GB - Rs. 17,700
Time Capsule 1TB - Rs. 28,200
Airport Extreme Base Station - Rs. 10,400

The products are supposed to arrive at the Indian shores “within six weeks”, we’re told. The Apple Premium Resellers and other retailers in India still house the existing desktop line-up, so now would be a good time to make your purchase if these high prices are scaring you away. Although why would you! These new updates, including the GPU in the Mac mini and the DisplayPort treatment all over are crucial for future proofing your Mac.

Tell me something. Hardware-wise, is the new base 20” iMac better than the older base 20” iMac?

Yes. Not sure about the graphics power offered by the 9400 as against the ATi 2400 card that was in there before, but it should definitely be a step up.

Whoa. Thats expensive man! The basic Mac Mini comes to around 30,000 here from my dealer. Or lesser, but the Dollar has gone up. You get a 2yr local warranty too.
