The only carriers as of today who provide the 3G service are MTNL (in Mumbai and Delhi) and BSNL in the rest of the country. But these are also the carriers with shitty customer support, poor coverage run by typical govt. employees (Your mileage may vary).

I’ll also point out that it is probably a bad a idea to spend on iPhone 3GS, now that the 4th gen iPhone is just round the corner.

Well . . . . i phone 3G is not the only 3G phone available in India most of the phones that people are using these days whether its nokia or sony are 3G and they work fine with the 2G network and so does i phone 3G . . i phone 3G couldnt make a good sell in India is because of its over price not because of lack of 3G network in India as it is not the only 3G phone released in India . . Or just by adding ’3G’ with the phone’s name it doesnt become the only 3G or the best 3G phone for using 3G network . . No i phone owner is having pain because of lack of 3G network . . But all of them who want 3G network . . There is nothing like that people only want to use 3G network in an i phone there are better phones in nokia which provides much more richer features than an i phone 3G . .

I wonder why everyone has such bad experiences with mtnl 3g
I am on iPhone 3gs and I get about 300kbps on 3g. Not too fast I know but still better than airtel’s 100 Kbps which I have used for 1 year with my previous iPhone 3G
btw, jailbreaking iPhone is really a breeze. It’s not as difficult as some people would have you believe. And if you are worried about warrenty, just reformat your phone before giving it to customer care. Jailbreak does not leave any traces In hardware.

How the fuck did you got ur iphone 3g a speed of 2 to 1 mbps ,while mtnl 3g offers this speed to those lousy nokia phones only?

I jailbroke my iphone just to experince the mtnl 3g jadoo{dont ever my advise for anyone else.}
Then I had to talk hours and hours to those idiots and loosers of mtnl care centre {those fkin dumb dont even know about apple or iphone ……forget about hsdpa or 3g….. they are fakin villagers from the outskrit of delhi………….talk to there senior executive right from the star my advice…}
after that all punishment i got the setting
which is
apn-ppshsdpa or pps3g
pass-mtnl123
username mtnl

After this also then nett does not work on 3g mode it works on Edge mode only
everty one nows the speed of edge mode…………….damm all this much for edge speed
I know this fkin author will tell me to check the setting or turn the 3g on my answer for hin

ppshsdpa or pps3g is the right setting for iphone but it wont work if 3g is on {lol a setting for 3g net does not weork if 3g is on crapy mtnl and specialy its staff}
the only other setting working on iphone is gprsmtnldel{ whis is for normal gprs
but we all know gprsmtnldel or ppshsdpa or pps3g offer the same speed.}

Well I just entered the APN as ‘pps3g’ for 3G service and ‘ppshsdpa’ for HSDPA service and it worked beautifully. But I just tried the same thing now and can’t get iPhone to connect to 3G service, looks like MTNL has spoiled the party.
