Pre takes on the iPhone in latest Ad

by Milind Alvares on June 27, 2009

Oh look! Sprint has decided to take it upon themselves to educate the masses about the current phone landscape. I guess Palm is busy dealing with their losses over the last quarter. Sprint keenly observing that the first generation iPhone contracts are coming to an end, Palm think it’s time to switch to their latest and greatest ‘iPhone killer’, the Pre.

Here’s an ad Sprint has put up on their facebook page.

Palm and Sprint are obviously smoking something we haven’t even heard of. Multiple applications you say. Try running a google search for “Pre battery life” and you’ll be a little closer to the truth. Hardware keyboard? Get a BlackBerry. Synergy? Would have been good, if it worked. Applications? I hear over 1 application was added to the store over the last week. And let’s not forget, Apple is all set on pulling the iTunes-Pre sync. Consider those Pre-happy-hours.

Ah Palm. I guess PC guys are just going to figure this out. They are just going to walk in.

*The author of this post has not used the Pre or the iPhone 3GS, and is not happy about either fact.

How can you possibly save $1200 over two years by buying a Palm Pre? That’s $50 a month. Are Sprint’s voice + data plans really $50 a month more than AT&T’s? Yes AT&T is far too expensive, but promising a $50 per month savings is disingenuous.

Oops, I meant to say “Are Sprint’s voice + data plans really $50 a month **LESS** than AT&T’s?”

The only thing that is appealing to me is the 4G (LTE) network. I’m looking forward to when AT&T will implement 4G.

Well, yeah, Jason, they are. I’ve been comparing the Pre to the 3GS and the voice + data plans on Sprint are far cheaper, especially if you get a family plan. Average data speeds? Sprint also seems to win. And then, if you want to use all the features of “Find my iPhone” and such, you need to blow another $90-$100 a year on MobileMe, when the Pre already has OTA backup, updates, and remote wipe. Battery life seems to have increased quite a bit with Palm’s 1.0.3 release, based on a co-worker of mine who updated.

I don’t own either, but I’m enjoying all the misinformed Apple vs. Palm hate from both sides. Just do a little research outside of the RDF and you’ll find this ad isn’t that far off.

@Jackson: LOL about the misinformed news. We have to keep the iPhone flag flying high even though none of us have even held the Pre.

Apple fanboys crack me up. Their almost as bad as people who blindly follow one political party “just because” - rather than getting the facts for themselves.

I love Apple, but the iPhone has PLENTY of flaws, the largest of which is AT&T!
