New $79 Premium In-Ear Headphones and Armbands

by Ashwin on September 10, 2008

Just when you felt the headphones came with a crappy headphones, Apple will launch a $79 premium headphone coming this October to complement the new ranges of iPods. These dual driver earphones come with 3 different eartips to provide a seal for the variations in ear types.

The earphones also feature an inline volume control, pause/play and next/previous buttons (pictured below-right). The back of the same is fitted with a microphone to be used with the iPod Nano’s voice recording app, or provide the same functionality as the current iPhone microphone.

Seems to be a good deal considering that most good quality headphones from Sennheiser, Bose or Shure, especially those with dual drivers, retail for around $150-200 or more. What is left to decide is whether the sound quality matches up to the standards set by the so called audiophiles.

More New iPod Accessories

Also on the menu were 2 more new accessories – armbands & headphones. The headphones will also have inline controls for volume and basic playback (next, prev, play pause). There’s also a microphone on the back that works with the voice recording app of the Nano. These will be available for $29 from next month.

What is still up for guessing is whether they will be available as part of the standard iPod package or they will cost an additional $29.

I feel the earphones are a bit over priced, I mean $79 is just too much for something from Apple that has poor rating. As for Bose, Sennheiser, they deserve that premium price tag. Apple should have started with something around $50 premium head phones. Apple ear phones have a terrible bass!!

$80 seems to be a fair deal to me if it’s performances match to the level of Sennheiser, Bose or Shure. You might not get a dual driver headphones for anything less than $150.
