@I'm_a_PC: The price you pay to get you PC "up to spec" is probably the one thing you didn't mention. I have a USD450 HP laptop that I use for work because everyone uses a PC at work so I am familiar with both PC and MAC. I understand completely what you say, but if you have not extensively USED/ABUSED a MAC, then you really can't say something about the "sub par specs" of a MAC. I've since left the HP at home and has started using the Macbook at work instead since there really is virtually no compatibility issues anymore between the 2 platforms... the ultimate price? NO VIRUS SOFTWARE for $50 bucks a year .

I'm a PC user. Your so-called "crapware" is a marketing strategy by these companies who make the trial programs on your computer. Most of the time, people don't need them, so they uninstall them. God forbid you actually learn to do anything with Windows. Why pay 1500 for a laptop with sub-par specs if you don't use all the programs to their full extent? Maybe I don't want Garageband; maybe I don't need to make movies. With PCs, you can buy what you need, when you need it. Prices on software always go down. With Macs, you are paying basically to say that you own a Mac. Big deal.

When you buy a MAC, you get ALL of their software 100%. You can use them, and there is no "trial" period. I've used iMovie and iWeb... without even having to get my computer to freeze... even once! Windows Movie Maker?...forget it, you get the trial version and to get the full version you'll have to cough up another 100 bucks! How's that for "you get what you pay for"...

MAC rules, period! Now, if you are going to just use your PC LAPTOP as strainer for Viruses, then that's another story because that's the best part of owning a PC... you get to keep your Viruses away from Macs.

What's she going to make movies in? "Windows Movie Maker"? Final Cut Pro is Apple only, Avid MC won't run on that computer, same with Sony Vegas and Adobe Premiere. Holy paperweight batman! (for reference, the bottom of the line MacBook Pro (the computer she passed on) can run Final Cut Pro).
