TextExpander 3 released →

It’s no longer a preference pane, but a standalone app. It’s got hotkeys to create and edit snippets, easier sync using MobileMe and Dropbox, a slick search bar, and a few other features. Excellent functionality for new users, but I don’t think it changes anything for 2.x users. $35 for new users, $15 for upgrades.

Thanks for the mention! I would like to point out a couple of the new features that would be of interest to TextExpander 2 users:
- new “fill-in” snippets that let you specify multiple blank fields in a snippet that you can fill in manually as you expand the snippet. Think form letters or HTML tags with more than one attribute. In v. 2, you can only reposition the cursor in one spot.
- Built-in Dropbox support for synching snippets.
- Edit last-expanded snippet via hotkey. When you expand a snippet and see it’s outdated (like an old email address or phone number), do you open TextExpander up and update it right away–or do you just make the changes and promise yourself to update it soon? Now when you see something that needs updating, you can open a quick window to edit it on the spot.
There’s more, of course, but those are three things I am excited about personally as a TextExpander user.

I just installed it today, then i removed it.
But now that i ‘got’ what fill-in snippets are i’ll give it another go.

Love the dropbox support btw.
MobileMe support was a bit shady, had problems syncing between my 2 macs.

My main consideration was if it was faster. Sometimes, expanding snippets brings things to a stop, and i see that expanding my ‘lorem’ text more than once in a row still is slow. (thats just an easy benchmark i guess heh).

Anyway great to see an update. I’ll give it another go.
